In the Summertime...
As Wimbledon reaches its close, we've had everything an English summer can throw at us, from sizzling temperatures and baking sunshine to persistent drizzle and dramatic thunderstorms.
And there are still so many summer higlights to come, from Henley Royal Regatta and Glorious Goodwood to Glyndebourne Opera Festival and open air theatre in Regent's Park.
All these quintessentially English outings call for an array of traditional English treats: an old-fashioned picnic hamper, strawberries and cream, Pimms... We've put together some appetising ideas and recommendations for summer entertaining. Go ahead and enjoy the Season!

Season Event Picnics |
|
When you're creating a Season picnic concentrate on finger food and ready-cut portions. They're easy to eat outside and will cut down on the need for cutlery.
Provide classic British summer delicacies (asparagus, smoked salmon, strawberries), to be elegantly nibbled with minimal mess. Ensure that white wine, rosé, champagne or beer is served chilled.
Table and chairs are a must for the formally dressed (especially when entertaining guests).
For a truly stylish picnic special touches make all the difference - table linens, proper wine glasses and champagne flutes, a willow picnic basket.

Food in Season |
|
From apricots and artichokes to watercress and wood pigeon July is a gourmet month, and our list of seasonal foods will inspire you to indulge in some midsummer entertaining.
July is also a great month for fish-lovers, with cod, crab, haddock, halibut, herring, John Dory, lemon sole, lobster, mackerel, plaice, salmon, sardines, sea bass, and sea trout all in season.
So now is the ideal time to indulge in some chilled white wine. Remember to serve white wine in a narrow glass, which should always be held by the stem to avoid warming the wine.
Fine white wine only needs 20 minutes in the fridge (including Sauternes); too much chilling will hide the complexity of serious wines. It's best, however, to chill cheaper bottles right down. Ice buckets are more effective when filled with a mix of ice and water, rather than just ice.
